Snow Monitoring Stations installed at Tubbs Lake

With the assistance of members from South Cariboo Search and Rescue (SAR) and the 100 Mile Snowmobile Club, Craig Beeson with Water Stewardship Division of the Ministry of Environment in Kamloops and six volunteers went into the Tubbs Lake area in November and installed ten snow monitoring stations. Volunteers included Dennis Hunter, Cathie Sutherland and James Seeley from Search and Rescue, Bruce Anderson from the 100 Mile Snowmobile Club and 108 residents Steve Monk and Graham Allison.

James Seeley has indicated he plans to use the reading of snow monitoring gauges as part of a SAR practise. With the continued support Bruce Anderson of the100 Mile Snowmobile Club volunteers will be able to access the Tubbs Lake area and take readings on a regular basis

The snow monitoring station locations have been GPS'ed and will be registered with the Ministry of Forests. As outlined at the October 30, 2008 meeting held in the 108 Community Hall this is the first step in gathering snowfall data in the watershed. The stations will provide information on the density, depth and water content of the snow pack. It is hoped that additional precipitation monitoring equipment will be installed in the near future.

If you wish to volunteer to assist in taking these readings, please contact Herb Carter at hcarter1@shaw.ca
